PP honeycomb board — also called PP honeycomb panel, polypropylene honeycomb board or plastic honeycomb panel — is made of polypropylene with a stable honeycomb core layer between two flat skins. The structure brings together lightweight, chemical resistance, impact resistance and high load capacity with easy processing and full recyclability.
It also avoids the weaknesses of the two alternatives it replaces. Paper honeycomb panel is not waterproof and goes damp and soft. Aluminium honeycomb panel is expensive, poor at sound insulation and poor at corrosion resistance. PP honeycomb panel is waterproof, quieter, corrosion-proof and far cheaper than aluminium — which is why high-strength polypropylene honeycomb board is now widely used in the automobile industry, logistics and transport, warehouse and turnover management, packaging, advertising and display, and construction.

The honeycomb design was not invented out of thin air — it was borrowed from the hive. Thin beeswax carries honey many times its own weight. Animal bones and plant stems do the same thing: wherever nature needs to balance light weight with high strength, it builds a hollow structure rather than a solid one.
Our PP honeycomb panel copies that logic in polypropylene. Material placed away from the neutral axis carries load far more efficiently than the same material packed into a solid slab, so a panel that weighs a fraction of a solid board resists bending and compression better than it does. Add the closed cells of the core — the air-lock structure — and you get impact and compressive strength that a solid sheet of the same weight simply cannot match. That is the whole reason honeycomb exists: less material, more strength, lower freight.

Shandong Flutepak Industry Co., Ltd. runs a 50,000 m² plant with 16 fully automatic PP honeycomb panel extrusion lines, backed by high-precision die-cutting and forming equipment. The lines are built around stable plasticising performance and extrusion efficiency, so cell structure and panel thickness stay consistent across a run.
Finishing is in the same plant: ultrasonic welding, an automatic box-making line and our own automatic heat-bonding process, plus full-colour printing. Edge banding runs a four-sided hot-melt process, which is what seals the panel edges waterproof, moisture-proof and dust-proof — the weak point of a honeycomb panel is its open edge, and sealing it is what lets the board survive real use.

What is the difference between PP honeycomb sheet and PP corrugated sheet? |
|
Both are polypropylene and both are hollow, but the structure differs. Corrugated sheet is a twin-wall board with parallel flutes running in one direction — light, thin and economical, ideal for dividers, layer pads and signage. Honeycomb sheet is a sandwich panel: a honeycomb core bonded between two flat skins. It is thicker, flatter and far stronger in compression and bending, which is why it is used where the panel carries a load — pallet sleeves, turnover boxes, vehicle flooring. Why are the edges sealed? |
|
An open honeycomb edge is the panel’s weak point: water, dust and moisture get into the cells and the board loses stiffness. We run a four-sided hot-melt edge banding process that seals all four edges, which is what keeps the panel waterproof, moisture-proof and dust-proof in real service. |

Can the panel be printed on? |
|
Yes. The flat skin takes digital UV printing and silkscreen printing with good ink absorption, and the UV-stabilised grade is used outdoors. Send your artwork and we will quote printing together with the board. |

Do you have flame-retardant and anti-static grades? |
|
Yes. Flame-retardant grade is used for vehicle lining, van lining and flooring; anti-static and conductive grades suit electronics handling and clean areas. Tell us the standard you must meet — for example UL94 V-0 — and we will quote the matching grade with documentation. |

Which thickness should I order? |
|
Tell us the load, the span and how the panel is supported, and we will confirm the gauge. As a rough starting point: 4–5 mm for dividers and light boxes, 6–8 mm for turnover boxes and pallet sleeves, 9–10 mm for heavy-duty containers and vehicle flooring, 11–12 mm where you need maximum rigidity over a long span. |

Is PP honeycomb panel better than paper honeycomb? |
|
For anything that gets wet, handled repeatedly or used outdoors, yes. Paper honeycomb is not waterproof — it goes damp and loses strength, and it is effectively single use. PP honeycomb is waterproof, corrosion resistant, washable and reusable many times, which is why the total cost per trip ends up lower even though the sheet costs more to buy. |
