What Are Corrugated Polypropylene Sheets?

Corrugated polypropylene sheet — also known as corrugated plastic sheet, PP hollow board, twin-wall polypropylene sheet, fluted plastic sheet, or by the trade namesCorflute and Correx — is a lightweight, waterproof sheet made from polypropylene (PP).

Two flat liners are bonded to a fluted (corrugated) core, forming a twin-wall structure. This hollow core distributes weight and impact force far more efficiently than a solid sheet of the same thickness, which is why you get the rigidity you need at roughly half the weight of solid plastic board.

Because polypropylene is chemically inert, the finished sheet does not absorb water, will not rot or mildew, and holds its properties in rain, humidity and coastal air. It is used across advertising and signage, logistics and packaging, construction protection, electronics and agriculture.

Corrugated Plastic vs. the Alternatives

The honest version: corrugated plastic is not always the right choice. Here is when it is, and when it is not.

Criterion PP Corrugated Plastic Corrugated Cardboard Solid PP Sheet
Water resistance Excellent — will not absorb water Poor — fails when wet Excellent
Reuse cycles 10+ trips 1 trip, occasionally 2 10+ trips
Stiffness at same thickness High for the weight Low High, but roughly 2× the weight
Upfront cost Medium Lowest Highest
Cost per use Lowest over 5+ uses Highest over time Low
Print quality Good, 1-4 colours, both sides Good, but fades outdoors Best — smooth, flat surface
Cutting in-house Easy — scissors, saw, router Easy Harder — needs sharp tools
Outdoor life 6-12 months UV grade Days to weeks 6-12 months UV grade
Recyclable Yes, 100% mono-material Yes, but needs dry, clean paper Yes, 100%
Best choice for Reusable, outdoor, wet or heavy-duty applications One-time shipping, low budget Where flatness and finish matter more than weight

The short version: if you need the material for more than one trip, or it will be exposed to water or sunlight, corrugated plastic wins on cost per use. If it is a single-use export carton and the budget is the only concern, cardboard wins on upfront cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Coroplast, Corflute and Correx?
Nothing physical — all three are trade names for the same product: twin-wall polypropylene corrugated sheet. Coroplast and Correx are the common names in North America and Australia, Corflute in the UK and Europe. Some buyers ask for "Correx" as a generic term. The material is identical; what differs between suppliers is flute structure, thickness tolerance and surface quality, which is what you should actually compare.
Are these sheets really waterproof and suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Polypropylene does not absorb water, so the sheet will not swell, delaminate or lose strength in rain, and it can be washed and reused. For prolonged outdoor exposure we recommend our UV-stabilized grade to prevent sun fade, which is perfect for sign boards or agricultural tree guards. With a UV grade, 6-12 months of outdoor life is normal.
What thickness should I choose?
2-3 mm for floor and surface protection. 4 mm is the general-purpose choice and the most commonly specified — appropriate for signage, boxes and most general applications. 5-6 mm for layer pads and load-bearing partitions, or where anti-static properties are needed. 8-12 mm for double-wall pallets and engineered panels. If you tell us the application we will recommend a thickness rather than selling you the thickest one.
Can you supply custom sizes, colours and printed logos?
Yes. Thickness 2-12 mm, any width up to 2600 mm and any length, white/black/blue/red/green/yellow/grey/orange or custom Pantone-matched colours. Printing is 1-4 colours by silk screen, flexographic or UV digital, up to 1600 × 2500 mm, on one or both sides. We can also die-cut, drill, corner-round, fold, weld and assemble the sheet into finished parts. Send a drawing, DXF or a photo with dimensions.
What is the minimum order quantity?
MOQ is 1000 pieces, and mixed sizes and colours are accepted within the same order, so you can test several grades in one shipment. Free samples in your own specification are available before any bulk order, and the sample cost is refunded when you place the first bulk order.
How long does production and delivery take?
Standard sizes: 7-12 days after sample approval. Custom printing or fabrication: 15-20 days. Samples dispatch within 3 days. Delivery from Qingdao is roughly 25-35 days to European ports, 30-40 days to North America — tell us your destination and we will confirm the freight cost and the shipping line options.
Are corrugated plastic sheets recyclable?
Yes — the sheet is mono-material polypropylene with no paper core, unlike corrugated cardboard, which has a paper liner that must be separated before the material can be recycled. PP is one of the most widely recycled plastics and can go back into the manufacturing cycle. This is also a purchasing argument in many markets where packaging waste is taxed or restricted.
How do I know the board is genuine PP and not recycled filler?
Two simple checks. First, the float test: pure PP has a density of about 0.91-0.93 g/cm³ and floats in water, while filled or recycled material sinks. Second, look at a cut section — virgin PP shows a uniform dense texture, while recycled board shows mixed-colour flecks and a porous core. We also supply third-party SGS verification on request.
Do you assist with export documentation and shipping?
Yes. We ship to 60+ countries and provide all necessary commercial documents (invoice, packing list, certificate of origin) and can recommend reliable partners. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TÜV) is welcome, and we will photograph and document the goods before loading.
How do you cut and fabricate the sheet?
We run 16 sets of high-precision die-cutting machines, which fully ensure the fine size and processing quality. We can cut it into specific sizes according to your requirements, and you can use it directly after receiving the goods. The sheet can also be folded, hot-bent and ultrasonically welded into boxes, trays and assembled structures. It is also easy to cut in-house with scissors, a saw or a router — no special machinery required.
